Bubble CPAP or Continuous Positive Airway Pressure is a low-tech, labor-intensive therapy performed on newborns with Respiratory Distress Syndrome to prevent Chronic Lung Disease. Pressurized oxygen is delivered through prongs in the baby's nose allowing continuous lung inflation. With Bubble CPAP, babies breathe with assistance as opposed to a machine breathing for them. Bubble CPAP is a non-invasive technique unlike alternatives (ie surfactant and ventilators, both require intubation.)
